Action News and Empirical Off to a Great Start This Year
by Tess Reagan
The WMHFA 2014-2015 school year was kicked off with a marvelous first day on September tenth. The brand new Action News team is excited to begin releasing broadcasts. I spoke with Josiah March, a retired news anchor, and here is what he thought about it. “I think the new Action News team this year is quite swell,” he answered, “This is the biggest it's been, so hopefully they can turn out some high quality broadcasts. They have a lot of fun shooting the broadcasts, and I think people will enjoy watching the work that they put out.” Hannah Mennega, also a retired news anchor, told us that “Everyone on the team has previous broadcast experience and from what I'v’e seen so far, are an engaging and innovative team.” The two anchors have also had some ‘pretty good times’ bringing the latest news to WMHFA families. “I think my favorite memories are just the little moments throughout the broadcast process,” Hannah said, “Josiah’s cheesy scripts, being laughed at for my intense reporting stance, breaking out into laughter whenever the camera started recording(there's something about being in front of a camera that just produces laughter...) being the only girl... all the little moments.” Many responsive WMHFA members have become enthusiastic about the Action News and have signed up to be reporters. Please note that Reporter slots are now closed
Many students are excited about their classes, and this coming year. “ From what I have seen it [WMHFA] looks like it's going quite well,” Josiah March continued, “I have heard some great comments about Mr. March and the music he is giving to Concert Band. I've also heard some great things about Mrs. Flick.” I can agree, I am excited as well.
The WMHFA Empirical is planning some possible new additions for this year, including a published addition of the Empirical, an advice column, and music cartoons. Letters to the editor will also be published. The newspaper coordinator will be Sarah Gonyer, of Kalamazoo. The Empirical is a rousing and informational newspaper that any WMHFA member can contribute to. It can be found, conveniently, on the WMHFA website under ‘News’ ‘WMHFA News’ and finally, WMHFA Empirical. All articles should be submitted one week before the paper comes out. If you are interested in contributing to this quality newspaper, talk to Sarah Gonyer, or any of the news anchors, or send us an email at ActionNews@wmhfa.org.
Overall, the WMHFA News area is off to a lively start this year.
